One of my favourite things about writing this blog is having the opportunity to meet new talented designers making fabulously creative kids stuff. Today we catch up with Melanie Brook and showcase some knitted lovelies from her label Knitter Knatter.
Melanie started out knitting toys and clothing for friends to celebrate the birth of their babies. Such friends were so impressed with the old fashion coolness that they started sending her requests. Melanie soon realised that there was growning interest in handmade children’s products and combining this with her love of sewing, she started her label in 2009.
Melanie works from old patterns that she has sourced from her grandmother, great grandmother and great aunts and gives them a modern feel with fresh colours and styles. She also likes to mix up her patterns with some kooky toys to keep things interesting. All products in the range are made by Melanie, her Mum and her two grandmothers.
The Knitter Knatter collection is made from pure wool, acrylic or acrylic blends depending on the product being produced and the customer’s requests. When asked what she loves about creating her label, Melanie replied “I love babies and children so every piece that I knit I do with care. I also enjoy receiving photos of the babies enjoying their winter woollies”…. enough said!
