Music Review... Oh Lucky Day!

Hooray for awesome music! It’s rare that a day goes by in our household without music filling the air space of all inches of our humble abode. So, today it’s my pleasure to share with you the fabulous new release from Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band. The album is called “Oh Lucky Day” and it’s toe tappin’, head boppin’, shimmy shakin’ goodness…

Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band, Oh Lucky Day!

My favourite track on the album is called “Smiling” which spins a positive slant on some frankly scary old time fairytales that used to have children tumbling down hills and poor old Humpty falling off walls… not this time though, because when you’re grinning ear to ear, all your troubles disappear! You’ll also recognise the melody, sampled from the classic song Heart and Soul. Simply superb.

If you’re Mum to a girly girl, no doubt the song “Pretty Princess” will be a favourite in your household. Other top picks that have inspired several repeats in our house include “Light Beams” {this one’s a bit of tear jerker for soppy parents like me}, “Vacation” with the stellar lyric We’re on vacation today… Mummy needs a time out, “Quite Like You”  and “Race Car”. An honorable mention also goes to “Let’s Dance” for making the hokey pokey cool again.

Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band, Oh Lucky Day!

Oh Lucky Day! is an album that is upbeat and positive all the way through with feel good anthems that you can delight in listening to over and over again until you’re so versed in the lyrics that you could provide back up vocals on the next Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band tour! Fingers crossed that one day these guys make it down under to the land of Oz.

You can purchase Oh Lucky Day! through Itunes {or your favourite CD store}. You can also download a free track off the album, Here Comes The Sun.

Congratulations to our winners Sam C. and Naomi M.

And when you smile, the whole world stops and stares for a while coz your amazing just the way you are!

  • I like to myself believe that planet Earth turns slowly, it’s hard to say that I’d rather stay awake when I’m asleep coz everything is never as it seems

  • I’ll paint you mornings of gold, I’ll spin you Valentine evenings.

  • Naomi

If I had words to make a day for you, I’d sing you a morning golden and blue. <3

For special memories of family and friends….
    ‘Happy Birthday to you….’

  • If I could tell the world just one thing, it would be, we’re all ok…

The old jazz song, Misty is a favourite of mine “Walk my way, And a thousand violins begin to play, Or it might be the sound of your hello, That music I hear,
    I get misty,whenever you’re near” mmmmm 🙂

Rock and roll is fun but if you ever hear someone
Say you are huge, look at the moon, look at the stars, look at the sun
Look at the ocean and the desert and the mountains and the sky
Say I am just a speck of dust inside a giant’s eye
I am just a speck of dust inside a giant’s eye

We’re one, but we’re not the same.
We get to carry each other,
    Carry each other,

A song of complete unity and ‘oneness’.

  • Lisa Marie

All the time, everyone, everywhere, everything…

  • You don’t have to tell a flower how to bloom
Or light how to fill up a room
You already are what you are
And what you are is beautiful

This is a song by jewel – “what you are” and its hard to pick out just one line as the lyrics of this song are poignant and uplifting at the same time! A great song for young girls (and boys) to hear to know they are perfect just the way they are!

  • “Hey diddle diddle the cat and the fiddle ”

Mother Goose is such a rhyming master, not rap artist could match her talent:)

My favourite lyrics in recent years, definitely Bob Evans:

“Good morning baby it’s raining outside
But we’ve got all day and the sun’s in your eyes
Frisky on whisky we’re champagne and wine
    Drinking in, sinking in love
    Where we’ll go I gloriously don’t know
    I’m nowhere without you”

I would love more tips on great indie kids’ music.

If I was a haircut would you wear a hat?
If I was a maid, could I clean your flat?
If I was the carpet would ya wipe your feet,
In time to save me from mud off the street?
If you like me, if you love me,
Why don’t you get down on your knees
    And scrub me?
    I’m a little grubby
    From being around.
    – Lemonheads, Being Around

    Is this the real life
    Is this just fantasy
    Caught in a landslide
    No escape from reality
Open your eyes, look up to the skies and see
I’m just a poor boy, I need no sympathy
Because I’m easy come, easy go; little high, little low
anyway the wind blows doesn’t really matter to me
    To me

Have loved this song & lyrics since i was a lil girl 🙂

Sam I was nearly going to do a line from being around 🙂

    Lamb, ‘Bonfire’

The time is long overdue for
a house cleaning of the soul
We all get so complicated in our lives
When walking just walk, when sitting just sit, when being just be
Above all don’t stray from your chosen path

  • Kirra

    PS: great question

  • Julie

Couldn’t help myself, this music is way too cute, had to jump on itunes and buy it straight away!!

  • Jodie

    Because you’re gorgeous

I have too many favourite songs, but this is an old favourite my teen self loved day dreaming scenes like these…..needless to say my Mother was kind of worried!

Picture yourself in a boat on a river
With tangerine trees and marmalade skies
Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly
    A girl with kaleidoscope eyes

Cellophane flowers of yellow and green
    Towering over your head
Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes
    And she’s gone

  • Jessica

Run, run, run for the roses. Quicker it opens, slower it closes. Man oh man old friend of mine, all good things in all good time. ~ Jerry Garcia

  • Angela Grant

    Love is the answer,
At least for most of the questions in my heart
Like why are we here? And where do we go?
And how come it’s so hard?
    It’s not always easy and
    Sometimes life can be deceiving
I’ll tell you one thing, it’s always better when we’re together

Jack Johnson- Better Together. An amazing singer with even more amazing songs that are great to listen to by yourself and relax or sing along with with the kids.

  • Naomi

Strawberry Letter 23 by Shuggie Otis. Just a great feeling of love and joy as Shuggie gets his 23rd strawberry letter from his girl. Love the ending of the song as it lifts you up and takes you away – always play this part v. loud.

  • Linda

“I love you, even when I’m sleeping”
Leonardo’s Bride – my walk down the aisle song

  • Jessie

    The telephone is singing
    It’s too early
    Don’t pick it up
We don’t need to we got everything
    We need right here
And everything we need is enough
    Just so easy
When the whole world fits inside of your arms
Don’t really need to pay attention to the alarm
Wake up slow, yeah, wake up slow

Just one verse from Jack Johnson’s Banana Pancakes – Love it!
