BOOGERS... Music Review + Giveaway!

This week we’ve been spinning a few tracks from “The World’s Most Dangerous Kids Band”, Boogers. The band was created by musician and developmental psychologist Paul Crowe aka Crusty Booger {eeeewwww…}, who spent the 80s-90s playing, writing and touring the U.S. as a bassist with Chicago-based punk and post-punk bands {at one stage playing with Dee Dee and Marky Ramone}.

I decided to let loose with the Boogers most recent CD “Let’s Go” at a kids birthday party that I attended this past weekend to see the kids reaction. Of course, anything with the title “BOOGERS” on the front is bound to get a reaction, which in this case was a symphony of giggles, squeals and scrunched up faces.

The kids were aged between 4 – 8 and happily broke into a state of crazy when we blasted out a couple of songs. A video of which I have tucked away safely to play at a later date when said children are teenagers. The biggest reaction to the CD however was the adults, most of whom I grew up with, enjoying our angst ridden and misspent youth listening to bands such as The Ramones, The New York Dolls and Iggy Pop. I handed out post-its with the bands website on it after the party…

Highlights from “Let’s Go” include Otto’s Orange Day {I can’t help but picture Otto from The Simpsons when I hear it} and The Big Rocky Candy Mountain, which has the catchiest melody and lyrics on the album.  Track number 4 is also a favourite in our household, it’s called “Eat Your Vegetables” and is a song that is perfectly welcome at our dinner table. Forget about “here comes the aeroplane”, these vegetables are more like kamikaze fighter pilots…

  • I can tell you my 5yr olds favourite punk track is Blitzkrieg Bop by the Ramones, he also loves Diamonds and Guns by The Transplants!
This album would be perfect for him – some of the language in punk music is not suitable for a 5 year old! Although half the time it tends to sound like whatthmuthwahhamamger or something similar!

  • Mandy Graham

My son loves to rock to Bon Jovi – Livin’ On A Prayer.

  • Does Avril Lavigne count? She was girl and he was boy, can I make it anymore obvious! Go ties on girls.

  • Have to agree on The Ramones Blitzkrieg Bop, especially after my Daughter’s music teacher taught it to them in class last year! We also turn the Violent Femmes Blister in the Sun right up on a Saturday evening!

  • Allison Owens

My Grand daughter loves Avril Lavinge so this one is for her.

  • Di

It has to be American Idiot by Green Day!

  • seana

I love you but your standing on my foot by the Mr T experience… My kids love the Ramones Blitzkrieg Bop too, only they call it Conors in the backseat (as they miss heard the lyrics and have a cousin called Conor)

  • Erin

Flogging Molly ‘If I Ever Leave This World Alive’. My 3 year old daughter Harper and 1 year old son Jude and I jam it out together, which usually ends in fits of laughter on the rug! Would love to hear your work and she’s got a birthday coming up so would make a great gift! Thanks.

  • sharyn heinl

  • Amber B

Boulevard of Broken Dreams by Green Day is on the top of my punk rock song list

  • Shannon Maida

Ok, for me it has to be anything by the New York Dolls- Trash, Lookin’ for a Kiss, etc. For my adorable, sweet little 2 year old daughter it has to be either Sheena is a Punk Rocker or anything by the Misfits. Yes, Misfits. There are weeks where I will have to literally wash her fave Misfits t-shirt at night, so that she can re-wear it again the next day. 🙂

  • Joanne (Jo Lee Cocks)

My partners Fav punk rock song is silverchair, frogstomp. My partner plays drums (back in the day he was in a punk rock band – so my fav is one of his songs named oscar vs the world). We would <3 love love for our son to have this to rock out to 🙂

  • My daughter loves The Rock Show by Blink 182, she also loves the Boogers version of Pop Goes the Weasel

  • Jessie

In our family it has to be Violent Femmes Blister in the Sun for some post dinner dancing in the kitchen!

  • Kym D

I rocked to Blister in the sun by the Violent Femmes and now my girls rock out with me.

  • Fav punk rock song… My daughter only likes country, jazz and blues, and her daddy is so disapointed! He really wants to get her into rock. But when she started nodding her head to Alice Cooper, he was delighted! “She’s head banging!” he excitedly told everyone.

Who am I to tell him she was nodding her head because she heard “yes” in the song?

I like the sounds of eat your veggies 🙂

  • My 7yr old’s FAVORITE band is the Boogers, but he also loves Nirvana, Bob Marley, Drowning Pool and lots of other fun stuff! :c)

  • Vicki

    His obsession started at two,
    With Elvis’s ‘Blue Suede Shoes’,
Then came Kiss, Nirvana and Prince,
Now he’s rocking out to U2.

  • Rock the Casbah – old school punk.

  • Eric Waddell

The entire album “Lets Go” and Pennywise’s “Now I Know”

  • Kelly Wilson

Our fave punk rock songs are actually really relevant titles too: Mommy’s Little Monster by Social Distortion and Angels With Dirty Faces by Sham 69! I’d love to add these 2 to our collection! I’ve 2 very avid 7yr old punk rock fans! Many thanx;)

  • cheryl
