Good morning my fleece loving friends, are you ready to indulge in some sheepling shenanigans? It’s with a big cheesy grin today that I introduce Daniela Shelton from Hasenpfeffer Incorporated and give you the chance to win her latest creation, a super snuggly, cheeky-as-can-be sheepling made from cotton chenille and hypo-allergenic eco filling. Yippee!
Daniela hails from Winterthur, Switzerland, a not-so-little town about 30 kms northeast of Zurich. She moved to the US (southern California) in 2001, got married in ’02 and in ’06 fled to a little island in Washington State. Daniela is a graphic designer by trade, but has a lifetime of sewing up her sleeve which she learned from her Mum as a child. She also has a fetish for fabric, and after landing in California, the perennial good weather saw her sneaking off to garage sales and swap meets every weekend on the hunt for new inspiration.
When Daniela got settled in her current rural lifestyle, she found she had more time up her sleeve and began to entertain the idea of making something cuddly. She says, “It wasn’t until people asked me to submit that stuff to juried exhibits that I realized that other people liked my work. I figured if they wanted it as much as I liked making it then I should probably indulge them”.
Hasenpfeffer Incorporated now create four things: people, bears, sheep, and rattles. These days, their success requires them to use more prime materials but they still honour their eco-roots by using vendors who carry close-outs, dead stock, and remnants. They’ve also enlisted Daniela’s mother who knits from remnant yarn she finds at thrift stores and flea markets. Here’s a little peek at a few of the other goodies in the Hasenpfeffer line.
