Behind the Scenes with Ed & Evie + Giveaway!

Hi everyone! You all know how much I love the opportunity to swoon over local handmade goodies, and when I get the chance to share some insight into the people behind the products, it’s extra fun! Today I’d like to introduce Yvonne from Ed & Evie. I recently had the chance to check out Yvonne’s creations first hand through a charity project that she sponsored… the workmanship was tip-top!

Ed & Evie Handmade Children's Clothing, Tops, Shorts, Accessories

Ed & Evie is…

Ed & Evie (nickname Evie from a friend in my teens) was born back in 2009 after friends were so encouraging of my rocket top appliqué, which is the first thing I ever sold.  I have always wanted to be in the fashion industry and now I get to do it in a very small way.  After a 20 year deviation (you can never squash a dream you really want, you always find a way to go back to it) I get to pursue my dream.

My design style is influenced by…

I am a child of the 70’s so I am heavily influenced by the styles from then – mushrooms, owls, birds, orange, flower power prints.  I also love the 50’s and 60’s.  I love collecting items from those periods and I am trying to turn my house into a set from ‘Mad Men’.  Any dress up party I get invited to I always dress up in my 50’s garden party style dress (I made it of course.)

When I look around my workspace I see…

Things I really love – a lot of which are from my mother.  My Mum passed away 2 ½ years ago and she was profoundly influential  in my life.  She taught me my love of sewing and craft.  We spent many hours crafting together as a child.  I have recently moved house from a 1.8m by 1.8m workspace to one that is 6m x 5m.  I can hardly contain my excitement.  It isn’t my forever house but is a wonderful transition.  I have a space for everything.  I thrive on order, and I can get into the groove when there is order, but it isn’t always orderly I can assure you!

The motto I live by is…

It takes time, it all takes time…  I keep telling this to myself and my boys.  Nothing comes easy and it all takes practice (and therefore time).  Sewing especially takes time if you want to get it right.  I am not the world’s most patient person so I repeat this phrase often.

My favourite movie and song is…

‘Three Coins in a Fountain’.  I am in a time warp I know.

The next handmade items I plan to make are…

Dresses from original 1950’s – 1970’s patterns.  I continue to hunt for vintage kids patterns and have plans to develop my retro styling for kids.

Currently residing on my bedside table is…

‘All that I am’ by Anna Funder.  I enjoyed her two previous books so much that I really want to get into this next one.

My three most prized possessions (apart from my kids/family) are…

My iPhone (it has changed my life); a couple of small boxes handed down from my Great Grandmother, and; a handmade orange knitted dress from my childhood that my Mum made.

My biggest weakness is…

Craft items and fabric!  I have a lot of projects on my shelf to complete!
