Little Seed by Elizabeth Mitchell

We’ve been focussing a lot on relaxation techniques for kids over the past few weeks here on {KID} independent, which has been perfect timing, given that the school holidays have just finished! Today, I’d like to continue this trend with a laid-back, easy-listening musical journey from folksy children’s artist, Elizabeth Mitchell.

Little Seed: Songs for Children by Woody Guthrie by Elizabeth Mitchell

The release of Little Seed: Songs for Children by Woody Guthrie was timed to coincide with the Woody Guthrie Centennial and features re-imagined versions of 13 child-friendly Woody Guthrie classics.

Storytelling and imagination is at its best on this album, with engaging lyrics, rhythmic beats and lullaby-esque melodies that work so well for winding down at the end of a busy day. I’m also a big fan of using rhythm as a calming technique, and songs like Rattle My Rattle, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and Bling Blang are great for this purpose.

There are many tracks to love on this album, but my favourites include Why, Oh Why for its wonderful storyline, and Who’s My Pretty Baby and Little Sugar, because they are super fun to sing to your little one at bedtime (or nappy change time, or in the morning when waking up). In fact, I just love this CD more and more every time I listen to it.
