Spare the Rock Records presents "Science Fair"

Last week, the folks at Spare the Rock Records released Science Fair, featuring eighteen awesome tracks with the central theme of supporting science and engineering education for girls. The album brings together an impressive collection of artists including Elizabeth Mitchel, Frances England, Moona Luna, Laura Veirs, Mates of State and many more.

There’s so much to love about this album from it’s empowering message for girls, to its educational content that is sure to be adored by parents and teachers alike. The motivation for this CD came from statistics indicating that women are significantly underrepresented in science-related fields. Science Fair aims to balance these stats through the message of the album and also through financial contributions generated by sales. Net proceeds will be donated to Girls Inc, a science education program for girls.

The tracks on Science Fair cover a diverse range of topics from Madam Curie, to Fossils and Phytoplankton. My favourite track on the album is Heisenberg’s Aha! (by Lori Henriques) which tells the story the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle. I also love Constellation Bound (by Catbird) for it’s toe-tappin’ beats, and H2O (by Moona Luna) for its catchy bilingual melodies.
