Recess Monkey - Deep Sea Diver!

Receiving new children’s music for review is one of my favourite little pleasures of writing for KID independent, but when the new album from Recess Monkey popped up in my mailbox this week I just about burst with excitement. I’ve got a little bit of a geeky music crush on these boys from Seattle. In fact, I secretly put their songs onto my personal iPod so I can listen to them when I’m out jogging!

Recess Monkey Deep Sea Diver - Kids Music

Recess Monkey’s Deep Sea Diver is a quirky ocean-themed collection of 15 funky songs with clever lyrics, smooth grooves, and rocking beats. When describing the inspiration for this album, brand new band member Korum Bischoff says, “I grew up living aboard a sailboat docked at Bainbridge Island, Washington, so Deep Sea Diver’s theme felt like coming home! While other kids played ball in the yard, I was fishing, rowing, poking at creatures on the pilings, and having epic pirate battles aboard my floating home. Now I get to share all this with a slew of kids who might never experience that lifestyle”… and that, my friends, is the essence of this kick-butt album.

Kicking off the album with a burst of high energy hijinks is the song Tambourine Submarine, which I’d like to share with you today. However, you’ll definitely want to listen to the whole album, with pearlers like, “Fish Sticks” bound to be stuck in your head for days, and the Latin stylings of “The Deep End” perfect for a family singalong. I also dig the bouncy surfer beats of “Compass Rose” and theatrical feel of “The Seven Cs”.
