It’s with a giant grin and a whole lot of love in my heart today that I welcome Ana from Pinknounou to KID independent. Today’s feature gives you the inside scoop on Ana’s creative process, inspiration and artistic background… enjoy!

PinkNounou is…
My name is Ana. I live in Lisbon with my 6 year old daughter and my husband. A few years ago I was working as a graphic designer but I started to be more and more interested in children’s illustration – I’ve always loved children’s books and have a huge collection of them, some from when I was little. So when the opportunity came along I decided to transform this passion for illustration, toys and design into my own project – and Pinknounou was born.

My artistic / educational background is…
I have a degree in Graphic Design and in the moment I’m fully dedicated to my passion – children’s illustration and toys design.

Three things that make my business unique are…
My whimsical and colourful soft toys + each piece is designed and produced with most care + taking really good care of my customers and making them happy + and I have to add another… having an assistant (my daughter) who, with all professionalism, helps me to test my toys!

My design style is influenced by…
Lots and lots of things! I’m surrounded by books, magazines, blogs, nature… In these last few years, I think mostly by my daughter and her drawings.

My favourite materials to work with are…
Definitely fabric – such a versatile material – cotton, linen and wool has a special place in my heart, and paper!

The first handmade product that I made for my store was…
Little animal characters, in felt, all sewn by hand.

Three things that make me smile each day are…
My daughter + to be able to work on my illustrations + a happy client.

Three things most people don’t know about me are…
I’m very afraid of flying + I’m very shy + would love to have a big, big family.

Currently residing on my bedside table is…
The last issues of Mollie Makes magazine, a culinary book by Lorraine Pascale, three little embroidered boxes in fabric that I really treasure, some drawings that my daughter makes and likes to leave by my beside table, my drawing notebook (because when I’m falling asleep sometimes I have great ideas, and some books… (by Paul Auster, Mia Couto and another with Poe’s tales). It’s a big stack!

My three most prized possessions (apart from my kids/family) are…
My children’s books + a collection of 4 glasses I bought in the MoMA Museum (they are fabulous!) + my grandmother’s very, very old sewing machine + my daughters drawings, for sure.
