I’m delighted to welcome Kayla J. Rose to KID independent. Kayla is a creative soul who works with cheery, vibrant fabrics in feminine and playful silhouettes. I’m all kinds of smitten with her little ruffle bloomers that you see below, and today I’d like to share my review with you. Kayla is also treating one lucky reader to a custom designed outfit direct from her “Design Your Own Studio”. Woohoo!
Today we’re reviewing a pair of Kayla J. Rose bloomers in precious peach and pink, featuring floral ruffles and a charming little blue bow. I must say, when something this lovely arrives in my mailbox, I get super excited about all the beautiful fabrics! My mind begins to wander, thinking of all the mix and match outfits that I can create. It’s ironic that I grew up as such a tomboy, given how easily I am wooed these days by fabulous florals.
The workmanship in these bloomers is superb, with professional finishing, attention to detail, and a comfortable elastic around the waist and leg (not too tight, which is very important).
The verdict… Cheerful, Charming and Sweet!
Kayla started her label 3 years ago… here’s her story.
I was catching up with my dearest friend when she was telling me about her new obsession with Etsy. Of course mid-thought she got the brilliant idea that I needed my own shop!! Of course, I laughed but than found myself researching Etsy and pondering the idea. It wasn’t too crazy of an idea since I had a fashion degree, worked in the industry and loved more than anything designing. Timing was pretty perfect too; I had recently got married and we had moved for my husbands job.
My shop was first called DiddleDaddle, and the items for sale were hair bows & barrettes. However, it didn’t take long to realize that I have zero creativity when it comes to hair bows. Hence why I don’t offer them in my shop and probably never will; trust me, my customers are better off!
That summer I created the ruffle diaper cover for baby girls and knew without a doubt that this was going to be the start of something special. Not only did I love them but my customers did too and for me that is the recipe for success!! That following year I added a children’s line and this year I launched Kayla J. Rose featuring my Design Your Own Studio. I wanted to give all the little misses a chance to be their own designer & create a piece fit for them. The idea, the vision, the concept is everything that I have ever wanted. I couldn’t be more happy or excited for what’s to come & in store for my customers! It’s my baby, it’s my true love.
Kayla J. Rose (the J. stands for Janelle) is the sole buyer, creator, designer & sewer of her sweet garments. She says, “I could really use some extra help but I secretly love being involved in every aspect of KJR. Lets be honest, delegation is not my strong point & OCD is at an ultimate high when it comes to my business. I get to stay connected with my customers, manage my money, shop fabrics, choose my styles and design the look.”
Kayla is a mother to one little guy, Beckett Kenneth… who was born just a few short weeks ago on May 2nd, 2014!! Her design aesthetic is driven by her own personal style, and she likes to keep things simple, explaining: “I tend to stay away from trendy styles but focus on classic pieces. I like to keep our little girls practical and poised; little girls at heart, little ladies in style”. Kayla likes to work with designer cotton fabrics, as they’re practical, comfortable, easy to care for and can endure the energy of little ones.
Here’s fun facts about Kayla, in her own words:
Don’t judge but my shoe collection kind of makes me the happiest! It is all about the shoe ladies isn’t it!!
You know when it’s said that some things skip a generation? Well my talent to sew did indeed – my family puts me more to work by sewing on buttons, fixing holes, hemming pants than sometimes my own business does! I know I am in trouble when my mom asks me if I am bringing my sewing machine with me when I visit her!
I studied abroad for a semester in Florence, Italy. Traveled Europe and dying to go back… sadly I don’t know any Italian!!
