This week I’ve been enjoying a serious dose of nostalgia, courtesy of Riff Rockit and his new album If I Could Fly. Riff’s sound is a massive flashback to the power rock anthems of the 80s and 90s and the album is inspired by artists such as Van Halen and Def Leppard, with a kid-friendly twist. There’s a certain level of kitschy-ness about this release, but that just makes it all the more loveable.
My favourite track on this album is ‘Backyard’ with its unmistakeable Van Halen sound, catchy lyrics, and dancey beats. I also dig the electropop vibe of ‘new shoes’ and the guitar shredding ‘food groups’ which is actually kind of hilarious with the way it blends talk about healthy foods with a growling rock vocal.
Riff Rockit’s alter ego, indie musician Evan Michael, is a leukemia survivor with a great desire to help those suffering from blood cancers. Consequently, he will donate all proceeds from If I Could Fly to BeTheMatch.org, an organization whose mission is to deliver cures for blood cancers. So what are you waiting for? Go forth and retrofy your kids’ music collections!!
