GIVEAWAY & Designer of the Week from Mister. I...

Good morning handmade aficionados! I’m very excited today to introduce you to a label that has recently landed on the KID independent radar and is one of our labels to watch for 2014-15… Mister. I! The brains behind the operation is Tracey, a Melbourne mum with an eye for style. We’ve fallen head over heels for the Mister. I Swirling Ocean Tee. Check out our review and enter the giveaway!

The Product Review

The Mister. I Swirling Ocean Tee is made from an organic cotton and bamboo blend in a gorgeous mix of fabrics designed by Emily Stanford Design. The body features a swirly blue pattern with a contrasting geometric pattern on the sleeves in caramel, chocolate, and toffee.

There’s much to love about this tee, starting with the modern, stylish colour palette. The workmanship is spot on, the fabric choices are perfectly unisex, and the quality is right up there with the best handmade design that we’ve seen so far this season. If you’re thinking that I’m a smitten, you’d be correct. The Mister. I tee stands up to the play test, washes well and keeps its shape, is roomy enough to grow with your child, and is just a whole lot of fun to wear.

The verdict… Add this label to your favourites list, quick smart!

The Indie Label

Tracey launched her label Mister. I at the beginning of 2014. She had been on the hunt for the perfect outfit for her little guy (who has just turned one and is the Mister. I model you see pictured here) but was disappointed at the variety available on the market. Tracey has been sewing since she was young, and decided that she’d dust off the sewing machine and make and outfit from some fabrics of her choosing… and we’re very glad she did!

Tracey chose to call her label Mister. I in honour of her son, Issac. She says, “He encompasses such a huge chunk of my life so it only made sense to use the name, Mister. I.”

The Creative Mind

Tracey prefers to work with natural, organic fabrics, due to their soft feel against the skin and benefits to the environment. Tracey says, “I’ve always been a hands on creative type of person. My son, nature & seeing new fabric designs from my favourite textile designers are my main sources of inspiration”.

Tracey designs with the modern mum in mind, using patterns designed from scratch (or reimagined classics) to create the perfect style. Tracey explains, “Being a mum, I know the products need to be well designed. It’s a real labour of love but I know it’s worth it. I truly believe in creating a high quality product that will last a while as your child grows. Our bottoms are created so the waist sits nice and high as I have a few friends who use modern cloth nappies. Our tops are also quite long in the torso to accommodate bubs who have big bellies”.

The Whimsical Spirit

Here’s three fun facts about Tracey (in her own words):

  1. I love being a mum

  2. I’ve always a keen interest in interior styling & design

  3. I’ve been sewing since I was 12!
