Designer of the Week - Curious Wonderland

Since I began writing for KID independent, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting a lot of very talented, generous, and stylish souls. Andrea from Kawaii Kids, and recently launched label Curious Wonderland, is one such person. She has been bringing quirky and whimsical Korean fashion to the Australian market for many years, and the launch of Curious Wonderland is her debut into design.

The Product Review

This week we road tested the Simply Batman Tee and Super Spiderman Windcheater from the Autumn Winter 2015 Curious Wonderland release, and boy was it fun! We’re a family of superhero fans in the KID independent household and so this was absolute treat. Not to mention my current obsession with raglan sleeves…

The Simply Batman tee is made from a medium weight cotton, which makes it the perfect transitional piece to take you through Autumn and into Winter. It has a good amount of stretch, but still holds its shape well, which is a big plus. I love the contrasting sleeves and the print on the front is just plain cool.

The Super Spiderman Windcheater is also mid weight, with an easywearing fit which looks great with leggings, trackies, or jeans. The spiderman print really pops against the grey background, and I really like the raw edging around the cuffs and hemline.

You can purchase both of these awesome items in sizes 1 – 8 years at $39 for Spiderman or $35 for Batman.

The verdict… Cool. Cool. Cool.

The Indie Label

Andrea is mum to Connor 8, Imogen 7, and Anieka 4. She has been wanting to launch her own children’s clothing line for a few years now and decided that this year, the time was right. She explains, “My youngest is in kinder and I have a bit more time on my hands, so we launched last month. However it was over 12 months in the making before we could actually get to this point!”

The Creative Mind

Curious Wonderland was inspired by Alice in Wonderland and the quirky things that happen when she falls down the rabbit hole. Andrea explains, “We want our clothing to be a little different and unpredictable from season to season, hence the Alice theme”.

Andrea draws her inspiration from life in general, and says, “I don’t really follow or aspire to be like any one else, however Cotton On has always been a business inspiration for me”. When it comes to choosing her fabrics and designs, Andrea explains, “I’m very much loving Cotton Drill at the moment and our Frill & Lace Vest is why … gosh, it’s amazing! I love colour all round and as long as the styles are different, fun, and yet practical, I’m up for anything”.
