Bean bags… I haven’t had one since I was a teenager and I’d forgotten just how comfy they are! Enter our designer of the week, Bec from crashmat, who has graciously added a whole new level of relaxation to my afternoons, and a whole lot of style to my back deck. So… let’s cut straight to the chase. I adore this crashmat, and I’ll tell you why! Yesterday afternoon I spent the better part of 2 hours lounging on my candy stripe crashmat on my back deck, while my toddler amused himself with his outdoor toys, periodically climbing onto my lap for a cuddle, or rolling around on the crashmat with a joyful squeal. The shape of the crashmat (which is kind of like a giant pillow) can be easily shaped to suit your lounging preferences (seated or lying down), and the size of it (180 cm x 140 cm) is easily big enough for family cuddles.
Crashmat features a high quality cotton canvas outer shell with a weatherproof coating and an inner liner for easy cleaning. You can use it both indoors and outdoors (although I’d suggest not leaving it out in the elements) and if you spill something on it, you can simply sponge it clean. Both the inner and outer layers have child proof zips for safety. Plus, it’s available in a range of stylish colours and patterns.
The verdict… modern styling meets supreme comfort!
Bec launched her label crashmat in August 2008. She explains, “After over a decade in the fashion industry, I wanted to go out on my own venture, but with something different. While beanbags have been around for a long time, fun funky prints and colours have not. So I set out to combine my love of fashion with in the comfort of a beanbag!”
Bec chose the name crashmat during a brainstorming session very early on and says, “I still love it today as much as I did all those years ago”. She also developed a little logo man to go along with the crashmat name, and each product has its own line drawing. Bec says, “I kept our logo colours nice and simple (to counteract our bright patterns and colours)… It’s all about balance!”
Bec’s main inspiration comes from her love of bright colours and patterns. She explains, “I just love creating new crashmat patterns. I love the process from start to finish… starting early on with some colour inspiration and following it all the way through to a finished crashmat ready for delivery. There is nothing better than seeing a crashmat in someones home!”
Here’s three fun facts about Bec, in her own words:
I train in Muay Thai (kickboxing)
I love Haighs chocolate
I always have fresh flowers inside at home
