Things are beginning to get awfully chilly around here and we’ve started popping mittens on the little folk when we go out for our early evening walk. Today I’d like to share my favourite pair, a hand knitted set from Jo at Spin a Rainbow. Jo resides in beautiful Tasmania and creates a range of homespun naturally dyed woollen products.
In review today we have a pair of Spin a Rainbow mittens in beige and blue. These mittens are available in selection of colours and sizes from tiny babies to toddlers and beyond. There’s a lot to adore about these hand knitted beauties, but I must begin with the fact that Jo spins all of her own wool and makes all of her own dyes, naturally from plants. The beige colouring in these mittens comes from weak boiled madder root after all the red is absorbed and the blue is from woad.
I road tested a little pair of blue mittens on a very active toddler, who quickly mastered the talent of pulling them back off with his teeth! Tricky! However, once we were out and about and his attention was elsewhere, they stayed on well (tucked underneath the cuff of his jacket for extra security). I’m very fond of the natural element of these mittens and I love the fact that they’re made from wool rather than acrylic.
The verdict... an incredibly sweet way to warm little fingers.
Alongside Jo’s range of mittens, you’ll find hats, blankets, toys, scarves, booties, tea cosies, and more. Most of Jo’s creations are available in a choice of colours and sizes and if you shoot her a message via her Facebook page, she would be more than happy to discuss your ideas!
