It’s been a while since I’ve shared some children’s music, mainly due to our busy lifestyle! It’s so easy to get swept up in the craziness of family life, and I must admit I’ve been stuck in a ‘Wiggles’ rotation simply due to convenience! Don’t get me wrong, I do love The Wiggles… but this week, I felt like I needed a change; so I dusted off the CD player and popped in a new release by award-winning Jazz musician Diana Panton called ‘I Believe in Little Things’…. oh, and did I mention it’s fantastic?
This album is Diana’s first children’s album, and it features 14 charming songs from Disney, Sesame Street, Willy Wonka, among others. There’s a few classics you’re sure to remember, such as ‘When You Wish Upon a Star’ and ‘Rainbow Connection’, along with the absolutely beautiful ‘Halfway Down the Staircase’ which is based on the poem by A.A. Milne. My absolute favourite though, is track number five, ‘Sing’. This song was written by Joe Raposo and you may remember it from Sesame Street. I personally remember it so vividly from my pre-school years and it brought all kinds of memories rushing back, quite frankly moving me to tears. It was a song my mum sung to me as a child and it holds so much fondness for me, and now, it’s a song I enjoy singing to my own little poppet!
If you’re a fan of jazz, blues, beautiful melodies, or even just relaxing and relatable music you can listen to with your children, then I highly recommend buying a copy of this absolute gem by Diana Panton. You can download the album now via iTunes (US release date for the CD is 18 March, 2016).
