The Cloth Nappy Hunt

Furious Kingston - Big Style for Little Guys

I’d like to introduce today’s post with a few words from the designer… “Furious Kingston is handsome clothing and accessories in dapper fabrics, with a vintage hoodlum influence. Inspired by everything from thirties gangsters and molls to psychobilly, acid country and bare knuckle boxing”… if that’s not cause for excitement, I don’t know what is!?

Furious Kingston - Handmade Kids Clothes

Furious Kingston comes to you from the talented mind and crafty hands of Melbourne based designer Cherry Rockette. Cherry has a background in illustration, pattern-making and fashion design and has even been seen sewing a few jock straps to pay her way through college {now that’s dedication}. After the birth of her little man, Cherry launched her label Furious Kingston and has been styling little guys ever since.

Furious Kingston - Handmade Kids Clothes

The Furious Kingston range features boys’ clothing and accessories in sizes 1T-3T (with 4-6 coming in 2011). Each item is carefully hand-made in Melbourne from start to finish. All of the designs are made in limited quantities and feature vintage bits and bobs to keep the designs exclusive and unique. I’m digging the rockabilly flavour; not to mention the coolness of the cheery rotund viking robot… and the curly moustaches, well what I can say? They amuse me no end!

Furious Kingston is available online through Cherry’s Etsy Store. She is also hard at work on her spring collection, so keep your eyes peeled for new designs coming shortly.

The Daredevil Toolkit

Today’s post is for those with a sense of adventure. The kid who likes to ride his bike down steep hills, minus shoes, hands optional {like we did in the 80s}; jump off swings mid flight; kamikaze off the top of the garage; or climb to the top of the tallest tree in the street. {KID} independent… we ain’t no stranger to danger.

Evel Knievel Art Print

The inspiration for this post came from a super cool print by Yee-Haw Industries featuring the legendary Evel Knievel. It gave me flashbacks of diving off the top drawer of my brothers dresser onto a carefully placed mattress whilst yelling “Evel Knievel!!!” at the top of my lungs… still a favourite in this household today… ahh, good times.

Kiddimoto Bike and Accessories for Daredevils

Once you’ve chosen your daredevil idol, it’s time to put together the whole toolkit… here are a few ideas. I must say that this new release Evel Knievel Bike by Kiddimoto has officially skyrocketed to top of the Christmas list for Santa. The important question is, could this bike withstand Mum and Dad’s crazy antics as well as the kids!?

Cool Kids Toys and Accessories for Daredevils

Next up, it’s time to choose a few good old fashion wholesome activities to build your daredevil street cred. Perhaps you’d like to try shooting yourself out of a cannon or cheering at the sidelines of the Bigfoot vs Yeti Ultimate Throwdown? The smart money’s on Bigfoot… rumour has it that Yeti is a bit of a sooky la la.

Final thought…. when stocking up on band aids, choose the kind that superman would wear.

Boy meets Robot...

My love of robots can be traced back to Robbie the Robot {who I saw for the first time in Lost in Space… Danger, Will Robinson!}. I wasn’t actually born in the 1960′s, but luckily enough for Australian viewers the repeats were played well into the 1980s. Robbie then popped up all over the place including The Addams Family, The Love Boat and Mork and Mindy… sweet, sweet memories.

Handmade Robots, Toys and Kids Clothing

I’ve never really gone in much for robots of “The Terminator” variety, preferring instead to stick with the classic retro incarnation with its kitschy sayings, tin exterior, predictable claws, dials and buttons, and randomly waving arm gestures. Not to mention the often comical facial expressions.

We’re a bit robot mad in this family so we’re always on the look out for new additions. Above are a few crafty handmade robots currently residing in your favourite handmade store. I also LOVE this awesome set of robot prints {below} from Fall Down Tree

Robot Art Prints

P.S. If you too have fond memories of Lost in Space you simply must give it another watch. The costumes are glorious, the characters are priceless and the sayings… Oh, the pain… the pain! Ahh pop culture… how I love you so!

Ain't No Mama's Boy...

Wherever they go, and whatever happens to them on the way, in that enchanted place on the top of the forest, a little boy and his bear will always be playing {Winnie the Pooh}. Presenting an ode to the ‘little man’… all grown up in the blink of an eye…

Little Man Clothing, Ties + Shirts

A cool collection of handmade ‘little man’ clothes and accessories for your {BOY} independent. Is there anything more darn adorable than a little boy with his very own windsor knot? I think not… The orange spotty neck tie above is from the belle and the beau collection and was the original inspiration behind this post.

Our other ‘little man’ favourites include tuff stuff by eco.kid for slick stylin’ hair, a 1940′s style fedora for impressing the ladies, an urban beanie for kicking it with your homeboys… oh, and of course a debonair bear for a wingman.

Appliqué Heroes…

There are several iconic characters that every child should meet during their formative years. Legends of popular culture, celluloid heroes and tellers of great stories. Sometimes… they come in the form of a motion picture, other times… in the form of appliqué!

Kids Applique T-shirts by Mi Cielo

“Truly wonderful the mind of a child is” {Master Yoda}. What’s not to love about this little blue Yoda Tee from Mi Cielo? After all, it pays to start them young if you want them to grow up to be a Jedi Master. It’s sure to delight the Star Wars fans among us {and make many a dad jealous}. Love him, I do.

I must admit however, that my initial attraction to the Mi Cielo collection came in form of one B.A. Baracus. A flashback to my own youthful days of eating redskins and kicking back with ‘Howling Mad’ Murdock and the gang. I pity the fool who doesn’t remember the A-Team! I’m having one of those ‘gee I miss the eighties’ moments… but don’t worry, it’s fleeting!

Kids Applique T-shirts by Mi Cielo

The Mi Cielo range is designed and handmade by Kayo Master, mum to Tristan (the gentle giant), Salsa dancer, world-traveller and lover of all things indie. Mi Cielo is based in Hawaii, but happily ship around the globe. Prices range from $21 – $26 USD.

Boys Love Rainy Days!

Now that I’m all grown up, I love a rainy day. It’s a great excuse to stay at home, snuggle on the sofa and drink dangerous quantities of hot chocolate. For kids on the other hand it can sometimes spell Boring (with a capital B).  So here are a few little treasures that will turn even the gloomiest of days into a fun adventure!

Rainy Day Activities For Boys

The original idea for this post came from the gorgeous new range of ‘thunderbolt + lightning’ kids tees and onesies at MiniEnvy. These guys are the new kids on the block and we’re digging their modern style.

I’m also mad about the Le Mans Racecar. It’s one of those fantastic kids toys that will last for years and can take a hammering; The kind that grows in character with every scratch and dint. It’s made from bamboo which puts it high on the eco-friendly scale and has spongy rubber wheels to make it go SUPER FAST. Look out Schumacher!
