I love it when little treats pop up in my inbox. Last week I received an email from Shelly at La di da Kids sharing some photos of a new range that has recently arrived in her store. Em&femme designs is a kaleidoscope of cuteness, 100% handmade and completely one-of-a-kind…. swoooon!

With spring just around the corner, I’ve been keeping my eyes peeled for transitional pieces. I like the fact that the style of the em&femme designs kimono dresses gives just enough coverage to guard against a chilly breeze, but with light fabrics that are cool enough to wear into summer. Not to mention how glorious the fabric patterns and colour choices are in each piece!

Each item in the em&femme designs collection is made with a unique combination of patterns and fabrics so you get an item that is truly unique. La di da Kids have a super cute collection instore at the moment. If you can’t find the right size or colour combo, you can also order a custom dress to perfectly suit your little one. Just choose the “custom kimono dress” listing and get creative!

With so much gorgeous handmade style to choose from, I have a feeling that my bank balance will be dwindling quickly this spring… bring on the shopping!
Happy Monday folks, I hope you had a lovely weekend. Today’s post is especially for the little glamourpuss in your household. It’s fun with frills, a touch of old Hollywood, a hint of vintage and a pinch of Paris.

The major inspiration behind this post was the Pettiskirt Bubble Romper by Dreamspun {image left}. Isn’t it precious? Each one is made to order in a colour of your choice. Perhaps not ideal for the playground, but it would be lovely for photos or dress-ups. I’m also quite fond of the ella tulle skirt and matching tank to the right from fashion forward handmade kids label es + es.

Even though we’re smack bang in the middle of winter here in Australia, I can’t help myself with the rompers… I’m addicted! Every time I see one in a retro style {frills an advantage} I’m completely gaga! Lucky for me these look just as cute {and even more retro} with long sleeves underneath. The cutie to the left is by Charming Necessities. The little apron to the right is one that I came across at Little Poppett in my search for an adult sized apron {I’m on the hunt for something retro to amuse me while I bake cupcakes}.

Rounding out our top six today is a charming tunic from the Stella Rose Collection by The Itzi & Bitzi Boutique. I’m digging the Elizabethan style ruffles on the front. To the right is a handmade outfit by Amelie Jo; featuring creme brulee ruffles and vintage black lace, on an organic cotton tee with authentic vintage prints.
Today’s post is all about linen and the loveliness that goes along with it. You don’t see linen around as much these days, but as you can see from the images below, when it’s left in the care of talented hands, the finished product is exquisite.

What’s to love about linen? It’s made from natural fibres and it’s highly breathable and very absorbent, making it a great choice for spring/summer dressing or light winter layering. Linen is also very durable and has a fabulous texture that is charming in toys and decor. I quite adore the Linen Bear in the top row, complete with her dusty pink floral dress. She’s perfectly dressed for a garden party, fancy some tea and scones?

Name this cat… He is quiet and small, he is black, from his ears to the tip of his tail; He can creep through the tiniest crack, he can walk on the narrowest rail. He can pick any card from a pack, he is equally cunning with dice; He is always deceiving you into believing, that he’s only hunting for mice…

Ever since our puppy post back in May, I’ve had my sights set on something about kittens. Then this week I stumbled across the Lucy Blouson Shorts by Sebastian and Sienna which set the {old rusty cogs} in motion. Please enjoy this cunning collection of kittens and cats!
Before I dash off, I wanted to share one last find with you. There’s no question that cats are curious creatures. Who knows what kind of adventures and mischief they get up to when they’re not sunning themselves on the back deck, or snuggled up on their favourite rug? One fabulous theory, as suggested by Julie and Donna from Sissy Sparrows, is that they’re quite adept at fighting crime! Introducing… Supa Cat!

Do you pop in and read {KID} independent each morning with your breakfast? Don’t be shy! Leave a comment! Just to say thanks for your continued support, we have 10 handmade supa cat stickers to send out to five of our early morning readers. We hope they will go to cat loving homes… first five comments of the day will win two stickers each… letters will be addressed to the little people in your house, a delightful surprise for a postie loving whipper snapper!
Oh, and the cat in the opening paragraph? Why it’s Mr. Mistoffelees by T. S. Eliot!

I have a real soft spot for handmade kids clothing that blends nostalgic fabrics and ideas with modern patterns and designs. I recently had the pleasure of meeting a handmade designer who does just that; the lovely Caleena from Little People Clothing; a handmade label based in Sydney, NSW… long live the doily!

Caleena started her label, Little People Clothing, after the birth of her first two children {she has since had another child, and has a fourth one on the way!} Prior to starting her family she had spent 15 years running a bridal couture business. She has a particular penchant for vintage finds which she then washes, dyes, irons and brings back to life with a little bit of T.L.C and a lot of imagination. How cute are the two little dresses above? My favourite is the Parisian dress {left}.

All of Caleena’s items are lovingly handmade in her cosy little studio. I was particularly inspired by the beauty of her workspace {see image below}. Surrounded by her little ones, who provide her with oodles of inspiration, Caleena creates hand-dyed doilies pieced together into fairytale dresses, upcycled woolen cardigans with vintage buttons and trims, super soft snugglies and dolls with hand embroidered faces… and so much more.

Yippee! We love a special offer, especially when it involves cute {and free} accessories! Receive your free hair clip with any order from Little People Clothing before Thursday 1 July, 2010. There’s heaps of cute clothing, toys and artwork in-store to choose from… Just mention {KID} independent.
Caleena has graciously offered to giveaway one of her Parisian dresses and matching hair clip to one lucky reader! The winner may choose their size, and either short or long sleeves. To enter, visit Little People Clothing and then tell us {in the comment section below} your favourite item from their current collection. Competition is open worldwide, drawn 1 July, 2010.
Fruit has long been bullied and neglected by children across the world. The school yard is practically a death trap for a lost banana or a orange slice! Dare to sit next to a packet of twisties or a snickers bar and it’s game over buddy, target practice for you my friend! So in honour of standing up for the humble piece of fruit I bring you… handmade fruit salad!

I don’t know about you, but this collection is making me feel mighty fruity {which makes a nice change from my usual, nutty}. The original inspiration for this post came from a delightful pair of Granny Smith Apple Booties by Pedro Sprout. I adore the whole Pedro Sprout range, but I found this pair particularly glorious. I’m also quite captivated by the O is for Orange print by The Paper Boat. Dig that cheeky and delicious facial expression…
Before I leave you today, I wanted to share one last fruit inspired piece with you. Pineapple Parade is an original art print by artist Giselle Gonzalez. I love the retro feel to Giselle’s work. The whimsical characters and settings give each creation a lively and playful appeal. Perfect for Mum and Dad’s space.
