I’ve never been overly handy with a sewing machine, but I luuuuuuurve fabrics! This week I’ve been swooning over some of the lovely designs handpicked by Marina from Run Little Fox. Marina creates bespoke nursery bedding and decor, and today we’d like to share a sneaky peek at some of our personal favourites from Marina’s range. Check out our review below, or shop the collection here.
The Run Little Fox collection is handmade in Australia from beautiful organic and premium cotton fabrics. Marina has an eye for colours and patterns, and has picked out a selection of on trend designs, as well as a few classics that will work effortlessly with your interior styling. You can choose from sizing to fit Stokke Sleepi and regular cots.
I choose the soft mint leaves and fun cactus fabrics, as I love the fresh colour ways and unisex styling. I’ve found that they fit nice and snug on our cot mattress, and the cotton is fantastic quality, which is a must for children’s bedding. They’ve washed up well, and I anticipate that they will be well-loved by my little poppet (and his siblings in years to come).
The verdict… fresh and modern, with a hint of whimsy
Here’s a little snapshot of the fabrics on offer in the Run Little Fox store. Marina also makes quilts and blankets, felt garlands, and fabric baskets. Custom orders are welcome.

Happy Monday friends! It’s always extra special here on KID independent when I have the opportunity to write about amazing independent businesses from my home state. Today’s stylish soul is Amy from Homegrown Gifts; a little spot on the web that offers lovingly handmade gifts and eco-friendly gift baskets and hampers, with an emphasis on supporting Australian made. We recently had the opportunity to purchase a lovely gift from Amy and today we’d like to share our review.
After carefully browsing through the Homegrown Gifts online store, I settled upon a Kitchen Gift Pack featuring a tea towel, jug, and dish. This tea towel is hand printed in Brisbane by Yardage Design using non toxic ink on 100% European linen. I love this modern design and think it’s almost a shame to use it as a tea towel! The small jug and ceramic dish are handmade in Brisbane too, using Australian clay (lead free and food safe). These are super cute as a kitchen accessory and are perfect for serving condiments.
The Homegrown Gifts Kitchen Gift Pack arrived in a kraft box (60% recycled and made in Australia) and was tied with organic muslin ribbon, ready to gift to your lucky recipient. I decided to add a Sow n’ Sow Gift of Seeds (trio of herbs) pack to my gift box, which comes in a Kraft envelope and provides the perfect finishing touch.
My experience of gift shopping at Homegrown Gifts was both effortless and enjoyable. The delivery was prompt, the communication was friendly, and the products make the perfect present for friends, family, or even corporate gifting. I loved reading about the independent artists from whom Amy sources her goods. It makes the gift buying and giving experience just a little bit more enriching.
The verdict… a pleasurable shopping experience.

Moon Jelly is a children’s label that has only recently landed on my radar. I stumbled across it recently while browsing the web, and promptly purchased a ‘Flying Fish’ tee to add to my boy’s clothing collection. Today I thought I’d share my enthusiasm for this fabulous Aussie brand by enticing you to click across and view the range, while saving a huge 30% off storewide during the Moon Jelly end of summer sale! Let’s go shopping!
The Moon Jelly range is a creative project by Australian mums, Alicia (Newcastle) and Skye (Melbourne). These guys work with organic fabrics that are knitted and printed in Australia with their own unique art and illustrations.
I’ve received so many compliments and questions about our Flying Fish tee since it arrived and have been super happy with the quality (especially the softness) of this tee. In fact, I recently returned to snag some ‘Flying Fish’ and ‘Billy Goat’ harems, because who can resist a bargain on such adorable fashion for the little folk?
Keep your eyes peeled in the coming weeks for more from Moon Jelly…
I’m predicting something seriously special for winter!

Hey guys! I’m a longtime fan of Kawaii Kids and love hunting through their new arrivals for stylish gems to add to my wardrobe. This month, I snapped up a pair of the Little Dude High Tops, which have recently made their return to the shelves after a sellout season in winter 2015. You can choose from four colours (red, black, green, and pink) in sizes to fit 1 through to 10 years of age. We opted for red, to enhance matching with our winter wardrobe, which is filled with lots of white, blue, and charcoal. Check out our review below, or shop for children’s shoes at Kawaii Kids.
There are several things I like about the Little Dude High Tops, starting with the bold, bright colours and funky contrasting lining (with fold down tops). I was a little bit concerned when these arrived that I might have a hard time getting them on my little man’s chubby feet, as they don’t have a zip on the side. However, the laces are made from stretchy elastic, and with a bit of wiggling, we were able to achieve a snug fit.
The velcro around the ankle is really handy for wear with toddlers, as it keeps these shoes on their feet. I have a lot of trouble in this area, as my boy is a Shoedini… but we managed to wear these all around a shopping centre without a single slip/kick/pull off incident. The soles are grippy, which is another plus, and these shoes look really cool with leggings, jeans, and harems.
The verdict… street-cool styling for kids
