Handknits... Baby Beanies by Bieq

Rise and shine! My cheery mood from yesterday is still alive and kicking, so I thought that I’d keep the little sentimental tug at your heartstrings going throughout the whole weekend. Today’s post is a double-whammy of gorgeous handknits from the current collection by bieq, with photography that will melt your heart!

bieq handknitted baby clothes, beanies, hats

Bieq is a knitting project by Dutch designer Angelique Roelofsen who started the label as an expression of her love of crafts. Her knits are made from 100% pure merino wool which is lightweight, breathable and perfectly gentle on delicate little skin.

In the Bieq collection you’ll find beanies, mittens and blankets for babies in sizes to suit 0 {including premmies} up to around 2 years. I quite adore the nostalgic appeal of the current collection. It’s a charming combination of old fashioned techniques {long live knitting!} and timeless silhouettes combined with modern colours and flair.

Knit Baby... Keeping it Cosy!

Good morning my freezing friends. Today’s post is especially for those in the Southern Hemisphere currently experiencing the winter chills. It’s Eskimo cold in Queensland, so I can only imagine the shivers happening down south! What you need my friends, is wool!

I’ve always wanted to add “knitting-extraordinaire” to my crafty repertoire but never got around to learning. This week I had the pleasure of meeting the lovely and talented Elizabeth Thompson from Knit Baby, and have since decided that some things are sometimes best left to the experts!

Elizabeth launched Knit Baby in late 2009 after having knitted her way through 5 kids ranging in age from 2 to 14 years. She was inspired to start her business after learning that she would not be having any more children but still had the desire to share the knitting love!

In the Knit Baby store you’ll find a range of children’s garments including dresses, pants, toys, tops, accessories and gorgeous blankets. Each one is handmade by Elizabeth from 100% Australian Merino wool and 100% cotton yarns that are super soft and machine washable for convenience. There’s really nothing like owning a hand-knitted item for your little one, to me it gives a rich feeling of nostalgia, a hint old world charm and a warm sense of comfort.

Knit Baby Leg Warmers and Skirts

You can view the complete Knit Baby range online at Elizabeth’s store. Garments are made to order, in a colour and pattern to suit your child’s personality and style.

Upon learning that I would not be having any more children I became worried about who I would be able to knit for and wondered how I could best put my creative energies to use. (Knitting provided me with many hours of sanity saving comfort through the years and tears.)

Mad About Muku

It’s Saturday morning and I’m sitting in a little patch of sun trying to thaw out my fingers before I make a batch of pancakes to kick start the weekend. Contemplating which handmade delights I’d share with you today, a charming little face in a pair of knee patch braces and britches  by muku jumped up and caught my attention.

Muku Handmade Kids Clothing

This handmade kids collection by muku is a charming mix of nostalgic concepts {like braces, knee patches and tweed} with a contemporary flair. I don’t know about you, but when taking in the beauty of the little models all dressed up in their muku gear… I was completely swept up in it’s charm.

Muku Handmade Kids Clothing

Muku is the creation of Dole and Mija, artists, parents and creative souls. Their favoured materials include soft, natural fabrics such as wool and cotton, in cosy muted tones. Their aesthetic is simple, classic and relaxed.

Squidgyums... Little Hood-lums

Today’s post comes straight out of Papamoa, New Zealand from a funky little label called Squidygums. I had the good fortune of discovering the Mr Squidgy Monster Hoodie on one of my regular hunts for monsters and other oddball creatures… The label is created by Kristin, twenty-something wife to Luke and mum of 2 boys, Finley and Archer.

I dig the applique patterns that Kristin chooses for her designs. They’re choc-full of personality and look like they’d be fun to take on backyard adventures. I’m also very fond of the sleeveless hoodie/vest style for winter layering. It makes for easy on and off to tie in with changing and often unpredictable weather… not to mention how precious they look on the little ones. In case you’re wondering, that’s Kristen’s boy Finley in the photo above … he’s likes to sing a happy tune, loudly, whenever he’s outside!

All items in the Squidgyum range are 100% handmade. You can purchase items from Kristin’s Etsy store, or through Felt in New Zealand.

Colour outside the lines with baobab

Two cool things happened to me this morning. Firstly I had the opportunity to put together a post exploding with colour, which I LOVE to do. Secondly, said colourful post is brimming with glorious winter clothing, and marks the first day of the baobab mid-season sale! Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah!

Baobab Winter Kids Clothing

I love a winter collection that doesn’t shy away from colour. When you’re a kid, you’re pretty much a bubbly bundle of energy all year around, so you may as well wear the clothes to match! So this season, why not think pink, purple, green and blue in bold prints and contrasting patterns?

Baobab Winter Kids Clothing

Baobab is an Australian company, headed by the life-force of the operation Belinda Blooman. The range is designed locally and as the seasons progress you’ll see increased input from local artists for placement prints and local designers for yardage prints.

Baobab currently works with 100% cotton fabrics but the inside info is that we’ll see a move into ethically produced organics with the summer 10 season… so keep your eyes peeled!

Baobab Winter Kids Clothing

Did you know that the name baobab comes from the African Baobab Tree, also known as the tree of life? This cool tree looks like it’s been planted in the ground upside down. It serves as a meeting place for villagers and provides food, water, shelter, medicine and even fibres which can be used to make clothes and musical instruments.

If you’re interested to learn more, there is a cool children’s book by Louie Stowell called The Baobab Tree which makes a fun and educational read for kids.

Baobab is available for purchase online, or through a range of selected stockists both Australia-wide and internationally.

Let's go... Crazy Ape Bananas!

Today I’m singing the praises of Crazy Ape Bananas and their collection of bold, colourful and spin-around-really-fast-in-circles-til-you-fall-over fun clothes for little folk. Introducing a winter collection of Mandarin Jackets, Long Sleeve Tees and Rah-Rah Skirts…

Crazy Ape Bananas Cool Kids Clothing

Crazy Ape Bananas is the creation of Buffy Laisby, a Mum with a background in graphic and web design and a love of bright and colourful textiles. She started Crazy Ape Bananas after receiving a gift for her son of a pint-sized kimono from Japan. In her own words… “I found myself thinking… unusual different styles of clothing in vivid colours and bold patterns… that’s what I’d love to see for kids… and so Crazy Ape Bananas was born!”

Crazy Ape Bananas Mandarin Jackets and Baggy Pants

All of the fabric prints in the Crazy Ape Bananas collection are hand printed in small batches in Bali, Indonesia using durable 100% cottons. The mandarin jackets feature black “chinese frog” loop buttons, two open front pockets (for secret toys) and soft cotton jersey lining. They are available in sizes 1 – 4 years and a range of cool colours.

Crazy Ape Bananas Mandarin Jackets and Rah Rah Skirts

The Rah Rah Skirts are made from mid-weight denim with a splash of bright patterned cotton. They are available in sizes 0 – 4 years and three different colourways (fabulous with tights). The Boys Baggies are made from soft yet durable cotton twill with an elastic waist and extra length roll-down cuffs. They are available in sizes 0 – 4 years and four different colourways.
