Stylish Mamas - I Crave Beige

It’s been a while since I posted something for the mamas, so today I thought I’d share a few earthy pieces I’ve been admiring recently. Beige is often misrepresented as the poster child for plain. I prefer to think of it as a blank canvas… organic, natural and contemporary. Perfect for building a colour palette of warm, rich hues and contrasting patterns.

Handmade Womens Clothing, Bags, Jewellery

The initial inspiration behind this post was the Jute Handheld Stachel by Drikab. I love their use of natural modern colours and textiles; in particular the inclusion of jute webbing into the handles. I also love the Origami waistband on the highwaisted skirt by mQuin. The slight wrinkling in the matte taffeta fabric reminds me of brown paper packages.

Toasty Tootsies for Mums + Little Ones

As someone who works from home, in winter, on polished wooden floors, feet heat is of the utmost importance to me! I can’t concentrate on a single thing when my toes feel like they may break off at the slightest tap against my chair leg. So today’s post is written in honour of keeping your tootsies toasty.

Wool Felt Women's Slippers

My theory is, if you’re going to wear your slippers often you may as well enjoy looking at them! You also have the luxury of the “indoor-anti-fashion-police” rule… which means that you buy it purely for your own personal pleasure and comfort! Hoorah!

I have a bit of a soft spot for dots… so here we have a pair of orange and blue spotted slippers made from eco-conscious wool felt; available at OS handmade. To the right we have a pair of purple felted slippers made from Merino Wool; available at Bure.

Wool Felt Women's Slippers

This next second selection of slippers is made by Lithuanian designer Grazina and feature a gorgeous selection of colours and intricate felting patterns. Each pair is made from natural, organically grown wool. Grazina makes her slips with both style and health in mind.

Did you know that natural wool has pain-inhibiting, inflammation-reducing, and body strengthening properties? Those are some super smart sheep! You can read more about the healing properties of wool on Grazina’s blog.

Wool Felt Children's Slippers

Of course while you’re on a roll, don’t forget to snaffle a pair of slippers for your little ones. We can’t have them running around the house with cold piggies! Here are two super cutes pairs currently sitting on my favourites list.

To the left, we have a pair of pure wool pink rosebud slippers from Handknit Hugs. To the right, a friendly little snail residing on a pair of pure wool handfelted slippers by Kitchen Table. Seriously cute!

Handmade Winter Scarves...

If there is one thing that I luuuuurve about winter it’s scarves! I always buy myself at least one each season as I adore the way they effortlessly add colour and style to simple winter knits. Whether you prefer the decorative kind, or the practical {warm woolly} kind, one things for sure… handmade scarves are the way to go.

Handmade Eco-Friendly Felt Scarves

Our first two pretties are made from recycled wool jumpers making them both kind on the environment and exceptionally crafty on the part of the designers. The scarf to the left is handmade by Gaye Abandon while the floral number on the right is upcycled by Twice Designs. I love the combination of the ruby red and navy.

Handmade, Hand Knitted Scarves

Over the past few months I’ve truly grown to love crochet! However, I’ve noticed that when mentioning the word crochet around friends I often get a grimace rather than a smile… I think it’s high time we spread the word that crochet isn’t all about Nana blankets and doilies. The scarf to the left is hand crocheted by Love & Knit in beautiful shades of pink. The scarf to the right is hand crocheted by Loop Over Loop from 100% organic cotton yarn in a delicious blush.

Handmade, Hand Knitted Scarves

This shimmery aqua striped scarf by Knit Frekkles was one of the first to catch my eye this season. It’s a classic winter style that reminds me of snowmen and sleigh rides {of course, living in sunny Queensland… all I can do is daydream}.  The scarf to the right, aptly named ‘Ignite’ is hand knitted by Artish. The use of novelty ‘feather-like’ yarns is perfect for a hint of flamboyance.

Handmade, Hand Knitted Necklace/Lariat Scarf

Last up today are two pieces of neckwear that take the humble scarf to a stylish new level. If you have a hard time deciding whether to go with jewellery or scarves for winter accessorising, this is the perfect neckwear for you. To the left is a necklace/lariat scarf by BigFrozenMelon in a gorgeous autumnal colour palette. To the right is a hollyhock floral piece by Ohmay Designs, perfect for accessorising all year round.

Special thanks to Belinda from She Inspires for including this post on her website.

Fashion Crush... Label of Hope

This week I developed a little fashion crush on the handmade creations at label of hope {I’m also digging the name}. In store you’ll find heaps of one-of-a-kind designs, gorgeous fabrics, and quirky ‘make-you-smile-like-a-cheshire-cat’ colour palettes. I adore the melon + peach cardi below!

Label of hope handmade women's clothing

One of the coolest aspects of this collection, and something I personally find very appealing is the focus on cosy winter clothing with a funky urban style. It means that you can throw it on with jeans and ballet flats and head out the door to pick the kids up from daycare and still look cool… and let’s face it, “cool” can sometimes tend to fade {aka run for the hills screaming} once you start putting “cosy” at the top of your fashion priority list.

Label of hope handmade women's clothing

The label of hope collection is 100% handmade; mostly from new materials, and occasionally from recycled or vintage bits and pieces. New designs are added to the store regularly and have a tendancy to be snapped up at sniper speed. The fun part is waiting to to fall in love with something that is uniquely you.

Label of hope is based in the USA but happily ship across the globe. If you’d like to view the whole range you can visit the label of hope website, or shop at their Etsy store.

Take a walk on the wild side...

I’m currently in the market for a new pair of shoes {of the high heel variety} as my wardrobe seems to have been taken over by flats. I fear that I’m becoming a victim of the ‘comfort curse’ where comfort starts to push fabulous off the end of a very steep drop…

Handmade and Designer Women's Shoes

In honour of keeping at least one pair of killer heels in your wardrobe rotation, I bring you eight of the wildest indie / handmade shoes that I came across in my travels. I LOVE shoes with statement colours, but most often end up buying black, brown or beige. I think it’s because I don’t have enough handbags to match… note to self, buy more handbags.

You might not be game enough to wear these to your next lunch date {or parent teacher conference, LOL!}, but there’s always room for a splash of colour and a hint of ‘fabulous’. The purple flats and the yellow + black stilettos below would definitely be welcome at my house! I’m also a bit smitten with the Miss L Fire Wedges above; this cult shoe label has some of the coolest designs on the market.

Accessorising… In Bloom

How cunningly nature hides every wrinkle of her inconceivable antiquity under roses and violets and morning dew! {Ralph Waldo Emerson}… Do you think it also works for 30-something Mums with cornflakes in their hair and fluffy slippers on their feet? Here’s hoping! Be inspired by the rich colour and beauty in these floral jewellery pieces from 8 fabulous Australian jewellery designers.

Vintage Styled Flower Jewellery

My inspiration today came from the “Pink macaroons were her favourite indulgence” necklace by Rue de Bijoux, one of my favourite places to stop by for whimsical OOAK pieces. I adore the rich colour in this piece, it’s the perfect accompaniment for your autumn wardrobe. In fact, I couldn’t resist snapping it up to add to my own personal collection… but do drop by and visit Rue de Bijoux to view the rest of their vintage inspired collection.
